Well this past week has been absolutely crazy! I got my brand new 1D mark IV and all the video's this week were filmed with it. And since I missed last week's deadline so in recompense I have made 3 videos this week!
First off was an amazing networking event at Lure Design Inc where I got to hang out with a ton of awesome creative types and try my hand at screen printing!

Then I was off to hanging out with Gary and Julie of Hughes Fioretti Photography and join them on one of their mini sessions. This was an awesome day and I think the video turned out great! I wanna add the two of them talking a bit about it but I like it.

Lastly on Friday night I went to see a great band, Thomas Wynn and the Believers! It was an awesome concert and a real test for my camera! I pushed it to the max and even in the low light of the club I was able to make an awesome video!

Week 2 - Meeting
So this week has been a challenging week! Classes began preparing me for the workload of the semester ahead and my next film. I sold both my camera's at the end of the last week and had been anticipating the arrival of my new 1D mark IV (which as of this writing has yet to arrive).
This week presented to me a surprise. A new lady in my life. She's a wedding photographer with a beautiful body of work and an amazing set of lenses. So I had access to a 5D for my video this week :)
The idea for this film had been sitting in my head for a while. A friend had brought me up to the roof of the plaza and I saw this amazing expanse of patio with the skyline in the background and I just wanted to put a model in a long dress up there. So Friday comes along and by random chance I end up getting Jon and Chris to join me in my video adventure. So I went from having no camera to three!
So this week is a sense of longing. Trying to meet someone at the same emotional time. It's been something on my mind a lot how people meet, have relationships, fall in love, and fall out of love. But they don't do this at the same time. It's often one sided and they meet somewhere in the middle if they are lucky.
I hope this comes across to you the viewer!
And again thanks to Jon and Chris and Heather! And a very special thanks to Shannon for acting for us!

Week 1 - Solitude
For my first week's entry I had a weird kind of christmas. I went to Vero Beack, FL for a few days with my family and it was odd kind of feeling. I felt alone a lot. And there was something strange about being at the resort where we were which was very empty. I hadn't really noticed how lonely this made everything until I looked at my footage and very very much a sense of solitude from the images I had taken. It was a strange isolated meditation. So a slow and slightly sad start to the year but I hope you all enjoy "Solitude".

Hello 2010
As a film student my life is all about films, watching, making, studying, and critiquing. But to challenge myself this year I have decided to take on an adventure in film-making: 52 films in as many weeks.
My rules are simple:
1. One film every week.
2. Must be at least 30 seconds in length.
3. I must be any of the the following positions on the film for it to count as mine; Editor, Director, or Cinematographer.
In addition I can shoot it with anything that takes video and with help from anyone who is willing. Subjects covered can be anything but I will try to make it relevant to myself expressing some emotional theme or just expressing an emotion I am feeling at the time.
The real purpose of this blog though is to make sure I do this to grow as a film-maker and as a person.
Thanks for checking this blog out & Happy 2010!
-Alex
